BergSight exists because good financial planning tools — truly built for Switzerland — were nowhere to be found for free.
Five years ago, I moved to Switzerland. Like most people who arrive here from abroad, I quickly found myself trying to make sense of a financial system that is — to put it generously — not straightforward. The three-pillar pension structure, the Krankenkasse franchise decisions, the Betreibungsregister, the tax return, the Pillar 3a options, the mortgage stress test. Each piece individually is manageable. All of it at once, in a new country, often in a second language, is genuinely overwhelming.
So I did what most analytical people do: I started educating myself. I read, I calculated, I compared. And as I did, I noticed something frustrating. The tools I needed to actually model my situation — net salary calculators that understood Swiss deductions, retirement projectors that accounted for all three pillars, cost-of-living comparisons across cantons — either didn't exist in English, required an account, pointed you toward a product sale, or were buried behind a financial adviser's paywall. For one of the wealthiest and most sophisticated financial environments in the world, the free, independent, plain-English resources were remarkably thin.
So I built them. BergSight started as a personal project — tools I wished had existed when I arrived — and grew into what it is now: a free, independent platform offering financial tools and plain-English guidance built specifically for the Swiss context. No products to sell, no commission to earn, no agenda behind the numbers.
All figures are sourced from official Swiss data: the Federal Statistical Office (FSO), the Federal Tax Administration (ESTV/AFC), AHV/AVS published rates, and cantonal tax authority data. Articles and tools are reviewed for accuracy and updated when rates or legislation change. When data is estimated or approximate, this is stated clearly. Errors, when identified, are corrected promptly. If you spot something that looks wrong, please get in touch.
